Message:I just discovered this Pegasus site tonight to my surprize. I am the 61-year old son of the CO of VP-11 (Lt. Cmd. Thomas White) during the time of this PBY rescue mission and have a copy of my father's official navy "War Diary". It is a yellowing document but is still very readable. I quote" Daylight One, Lt. Lt. Penfold, Bureau No. 08298 took of at 0804 to cover strikes in Kaoe Bay. He returned at 1015 with 2nd.Lt.Lawrence Hyde, USA 075-7998, 36th Fighters Squadron who had bailed out in Bay. He was airborne again at 1020 and returned at 1555." The chances of my finding this Pegasus site and having my father's War Diary were 100,000 to 1, so it must be your lucky day.
