Message: | Researching Pearl Harbor attack. Am trying to locate LT James O. Cobb or anyone on his crew when they reportedly sighted a Japanese submarine prior to the December 7, 1941 attack. I have read differing versions of this event, including Samuel E. Morison's version that Cobb sighted a submarine 3 miles south of Diamond Head on the evening of December 6. He did not attack because he had to radio the sighting and request permission to do so. The submarine then submerged. According to Morison, Cobb met the C.O. of the submarine after the war, and both remembered the event. I have also read different dates and locations for this event. Does anyone know of crewmen who were on that flight that may help me? Ken Hackler 900 Applewood Eagle, NE 68347 402-781-9242 kbhackler@aol.com |
