Message: My father Capt. Robert E. Coombs, Jr. USN (Ret. Dec.)was assigned to Patrol Wing 1 on Dec. 7, 1941. (My mother & I had joined him in Oct. '41). I am in the process of building a 1"72 model of a PBY 5 for my grandson. I am looking for info on paint & markings of those at Kaneohe. Pictures I have see indicate that the only markings were the nose and wing stars - no tail markings etc and that the planes were probably solid "Navy blue". Please advise. Thanks so much for your help.
